Fort Cobb, OK – December 10, 2014 – CKTC students who are NTHS members recently joined more than 230 students, advisers and guests for the ninth annual Oklahoma National Technical Honor Society State Leadership Conference November 13 at Moore Norman Technology Center South Penn Campus.

Those in attendance were Kelly Glass (BITE) Mountain View; Sarah Douglas (Health Careers) Fort Cobb; Morgan Sage (Pre-Engineering) Binger; Lindsay Beaumont (Pre-Engineering) Mountain View; Alejandro Gonzales (Welding) Carnegie; Chris O'Briant (Construction Technology) Binger; and Brooke Williams (Pre-Engineering) Fort Cobb.

“These students have demonstrated their desire for a high level of scholastic achievement and personal excellence,” said Tara White, adviser.

Students participated in breakout sessions that included Kyle Eastham, Black Belt Performance, who presented “Do What Black Belts Do.” Blake Whisenant, Express Employment Professionals, presented “Getting a Job, Keeping a Job,” and Suzanne Silk, Western Technology Center, presented “FISH.” Both Whisenant and Silk were inducted as NTHS’s newest members for their contributions to career and technology education.

This year’s theme was “Happy Birthday NTHS,” and students came from all across Oklahoma to celebrate the founding of the honor society. Allen Powell, co-founder, was present and blew out the candles.

“Students were engaged and had a great time celebrating the founding of NTHS,” said Teri Roberts, chairwoman of the Oklahoma Coordinating Council. “This is our ninth conference, and they continue to get better each year. For some members, this is the highlight of their year.”

NTHS recognizes outstanding student achievement in career and technology education. Some 2,630 new members were inducted into Oklahoma's 90 NTHS chapters during the 2013-14 school year.

NTHS works closely with the seven Oklahoma CareerTech student organizations: Business Professional of America; DECA; FFA; Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America; HOSA; SkillsUSA; and Technology Student Association.
